Please join OETA as we partner with the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes for a special screening of clips from Ken Burns' newest documentary 'The American Buffalo' at the First Americans Museum in Oklahoma City! The screening will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Cheyenne and Arapaho Productions’ senior content producer, Darren Brown. Mr. Brown will lead the panel in a discussion surrounding the relationship the Cheyenne and Arapaho People have with the buffalo in the present day, Indigenous partnerships with other community organizations, and more.
Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes’ Governor Reggie Wassana, Buffalo Program Coordinator Randy Hawk, and Tribal Historian Gordon Yellowman will be joined by wildlife biologist Dan McDonald of the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge, professor of Native American Cultural Studies Dustin Tahmahkera of the University of Oklahoma, and Content Producer Robert Burch of OETA for this once and a lifetime conversation.
The panel discussion will be followed by a shared meal of buffalo catered by the First Americans Museum’s restaurant, Thirty Nine Restaurant.
The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes Bison Program manages more than 600 heads of bison in western Oklahoma. Most of the herd is located at the headquarters, Concho, OK.
Through perseverance and determination, the bison, once again, are a daily part of the Cheyenne and Arapaho way of life.
The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes continue to strengthen and build closer relationships with key federal, state, private, non-profit, school districts, and city partners across the Indian Country in efforts to serve tribal citizens and create economic development opportunities respectfully.
