OETA to Host Winter Writers Fairs in Tulsa and Oklahoma City

Email share

OETA will host its annual Winter Writers Fair this February in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. The Tulsa event is Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Tulsa Zoo. The Oklahoma City event is set for Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Oklahoma History Center. Both events are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free but registration is required.

Parents and students are invited to attend and meet local authors Gwendolyn Hooks and Stacy Nyikos. Participants take part in a writer’s workshop with the authors to learn storytelling and illustration skills in preparation for OETA’s Writers Contest this spring. All kindergarten through third-grade students receive a signed copy of each author’s book after attending the event.

Al Bostick will also be on hand for storytelling activities and those in attendance can take their photos with their favorite PBS KIDS character. PBS KIDS’ Super Why?! will be a special guest and will be available for photos and meet and greets. In addition to the workshop activities, the event features games, learning stations and prizes.

The Winter Writers Fairs are a part of OETA’s Ready to Learn outreach initiative. Ready to Learn supports the education of early learners by leveraging OETA’s world-class children’s TV programming and empowering teachers and caregivers. The program offers parent workshops, community-based learning events and opportunities for state and national recognition. More information on the Ready to Learn program can be found here.
