For Immediate Release -

September 19, 2022

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – At the 2022 NETA Conference and CPB Public Media Thought Leader Forum on September 18, 2022, the National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA) presented the 54th Annual Public Media Awards (PMA). OETA’s own program, “Gallery America” won in the category of “Visual Arts” for their episode “Matt Goad: Positively Oklahoma.” NETA's Public Media Awards recognize the outstanding work in community engagement, content, education, marketing, and communications by its members.

“Congratulations to all of this year’s nominees and award winners,” said NETA President Eric Hyyppa. “This year the entries were exemplary, showcasing the best of the best from across the public media system.”

Various industry professionals from both inside and outside of public media were invited to judge the awards.

“I am so proud of Gallery America host Robert Reid and his colleague, videographer/editor Jonathan Thompson for winning their first national award.” said OETA Vice President of Production, Susan Cadot. “The NETA Public Media Awards saw record submissions this year from Public Television Stations across America. Reid and Thompson bring passion, talent, and work ethic to everything they produce together. Our mission with all OETA content is to bring our best, so that we can serve Oklahoma with excellence. This duo certainly brings their best and they do it all with a humble and positive mindset.”

The award-winning episode displays Oklahoma City artist Matt Goad and tells his story of how he has helped create the look of the modern cityscape, with street signs, logos, and beer cans. It also highlights his largest project to date: a 40,000-square-foot terrazzo flooring at the Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City.

“Matt Goad is a whole aesthetic.” said Gallery America host, Robert Reid. It was just a treat to spend time with him -- riding in the old VW, seeing his doodles that turn into such a distinctive art, hearing music from his bands that we used in the story, and just being at his home, which is so gorgeous and specifically Matt Goad. He is an interesting, nice guy. It was hard to not produce something special. Plus, we learned the difference between terrazzo and mosaic!”
