OETA Art Club Launches at Millwood Arts Academy
Millwood Arts Academy Pilots OETA Art Club
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – The Oklahoma Educational Television Authority (OETA) and Millwood Arts Academy have partnered to pilot OETA Club Art for in-person instruction.
OETA successfully launched OETA Art Club in the summer of 2020 as a virtual program. Now in its second year, the program will be offered in-person to the sixth grade students of Millwood Arts Academy in Oklahoma City. The summer arts program engages students in the visual and performing arts with clips from OETA’s award-winning arts series, Gallery America. Over the eight week course, students are challenged to learn about and create art after hearing from Oklahoma artists in selected clips.
“OETA Art Club was originally developed in response to traditional experiences being cancelled last summer,” says Curtis Calvin, VP of Education. “As COVID-19 cases in Oklahoma City are declining, we are proud to offer this educational program in-person. Not only does this benefit Millwood students, but this partnership will help OETA develop OETA Art Club for future, broader implementation. It’s our hope to grow OETA Art Club—we are driven by our mission to make educational opportunities like this available to all Oklahomans. After all, ‘education’ is literally in our middle name.”
"I believe this is an opportunity for us to take art to a growth mindset—where students can think outside of the box and at the end they'll have a product that they can show,” said Warren Pete, principal of Millwood Arts Academy.
OETA Art Club has been developed in partnership with the Oklahoma State Department of Education and the Oklahoma Arts Council.
